Muneteru Ujino

Muneteru Ujino
Born in Tokyo, 1964. Lives and works in Tokyo.

Combining sound sculptures made of industrial products of the 20th century such as mass-produced household appliances, electric guitars, automobiles, construction materials and toys with DIY technology, Ujino’s artistic language expands to videos or large-scale installations.
In recent years, he has produced works based on his own and his family’s stories, in which fragments of memories of daily life and everyday materials and events overlap juxtaposed with symbols of modern hegemony, such as the military and the railways.

Selected exhibitions include “Lost Frontier” ANOMALY (Solo, 2023), “Yokohama Triennale 2017 Islands, Constellations and Galapagos” (2017), “Audio Distortion does not Distort Matter” Nizayama Forest Art Museum (Solo, 2016), “Mash Up: The Birth of Modern Culture” Vancouver Art Gallery (2016), “POP/LIFE” The Hakone Open-Air Museum, Kanagawa (Solo, 2013).
