Above the focus, behind the ear

We are delighted to announce Akiko Kinugawa’s solo exhibition, “Above the focus, behind the ear”, opening on May 31 at Mendes Wood DM, São Paulo.
Until last year, Kinugawa was based in Hawaii as a fellow of the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists. This exhibition showcases new paintings created following her return from Hawaii, along with her latest works—paintings and drawings produced during her current stay in São Paulo. Each of these newly completed works reflects the influence of the place in which it was created, allowing viewers to sense a rich dialogue between place and perception through Kinugawa’s creative process.
We are proud to present Kinugawa’s debut international solo exhibition and warmly invite you to experience it.
