Biennial of Painting – Inner Spaces
2020.07.26 (Sun) – 10.18 (Sun)
Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Belgium

Maki Na Kamura is currently participating in the group exhibition “Biennial of Painting – Inner Spaces” shown at Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens in Belgium.

The museum website features Na Kamura’s video work “Stille Post – A Phone Diary” in conversation with the museum’s director, Antony Hudek. The concept is based on the children’s game of “Chinese whispers” or “telephone”, where one person whispers something in the neighbor’s ear, who then passes on what s/he understood (or misunderstood) to the next participant until, in the end, the last person reveals a message transformed by the inevitable misunderstandings. “Stille Post – A Phone Diary” brought two different languages – French and German on a visual level in this game, playfully to experiment on the gap in each response as the communication develops.

We are pleased to introduce this video work particularly as her new iteration from the series of video clips, which some artists that included Na Kamura shared their moments during the state of emergency in the pandemic this past April.
More clips on Maki Na Kamura’s YouTube channel, and hope you enjoy.

Na Kamura’s multicolour Lithography (set of 5) in collaboration with Hans Van Dijck studio, known for their skillful creation previously made by Luc Tuymans and David Lynch is also available online.
